Thule Lodge Moves To Winter Schedule
BEMUS POINT — The Thule Lodge,, 4123 Pancake Hill, has moved its monthly meeting dates and time to its winter schedule.
Tom Eckberg, lodge chairman, announced that until the spring, meetings will be on the third Saturday at 2 p.m. During this time of the year, daylight hours are limited and holding meetings on Saturday afternoons will provide more daylight when leaving the meetings.
At the recent meeting of the group, Eckberg welcomed all and vice chairman Susan Washington Sipos reported that the officers were in their respective stations. Diane K. Shaw, chaplain, gave the opening messages, encouraging all to visit the sick members. John Sipos, historian, led all in the pledge of allegiance.
Lynne Meyers, secretary, gave the roll call of officers and read the minutes of the previous meeting. In the absence of the treasurer, Meyers gave the financial report.
Cultural leader Sonja Pascatore talked about Birka Sweden, which is Sweden’s oldest town, and was a large and important Viking port and trade center.
Dance leader Donna Johnson reported that the Thule dancers will be at the Scandinavian Studies program on the first Saturday of each month beginning at 10 a.m. Assistant mistress of ceremony Bernice Veights said that a Swedish dinner will be served at the lodge in November to the members as part of the 110th anniversary of Thule Lodge. All members of the Thule Lodge will received a letter in the mail which will explain about the anniversary dinner and the needed reservation for dinner. Thule Lodge was organized in 1907 to help the Swedish immigrants settle in this area and to provide a social gathering for the Swedish people. The Thule Lodge now serves to preserve the Swedish heritage through events and activities.
During the meeting, a special meeting award was presented to past chairman Edwin Sandberg. Sandberg has also served as the New York District Master. Following the meeting, special cakes baked by Donna Johnson were served to all along with ice cream.
The next gathering of the lodge will be on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the lodge. Shaw gave the closing message. New members are welcome to join.
