Rachael Harper Takes Home Poultry Prize
Chautauqua County’s 4-H Poultry Program includes a market class for the youth to enter and learn about and show their skill at raising market poultry.
They have the opportunity to participate in the market animal sale at the fair. Each member may raise as many meat birds as they wish and can show two pens of two birds. By show time, the birds are between seven and eight weeks old. At the market sale they sell one pen of two birds that have already been judged as the best and are already processed for the sale.
This year’s project had 16 participants. Top-ranking poultry awards were:
Grand Champion Pair of Market Chickens — Rachael Harper.
Reserve Champion Pair of Market Chickens — Rachael Harper.
Highly Commended Pair of Market Chickens — Samantha Newman.
Commended Pair of Market Chickens — Abigail O’Brien.
