CASAC Presents ‘Hidden In Plain Sight’

In collaboration with the Salvation Army and the Chautauqua Center of Dunkirk, the Chautauqua Alcohol and Substance Abuse Council will be provide a “Hidden in Plain Sight” presentation on Thursday.

The presentation outlines the current trends in the concealment of drugs, and the importance of being aware of such strategies. Parents and those who work with teens are able to navigate a “mobile bedroom” and search for hidden drugs, drug paraphernalia and other drug references throughout the room. The presentation will provide information on substance abuse indicators, including specific substance abuse indicators include behavioral, cognitive and physical characteristics which are designed to signify a warning or red flag that something is not right and needs a little more exploring.

The Community Carnival is hosted by Faith Baptist and The Salvation Army in collaboration with The Chautauqua Center’s Community Family Fun Day. The event will take place at the Salvation Army in Dunkirk, 704 Central Ave., Dunkirk, from noon to 5 p.m. CASAC will provide three 20-minute “Hidden in Plain Sight” presentations from 1 to 5 p.m. Spanish translators will be available.

The program is supported, in part, by funding from the Chautauqua County Youth Bureau and the Council on Addiction of New York State. The funding has helped CASAC recreate elements of Orange County’s popular “Parent Program on Teen Drug Use and Concealment.” The presentation is intended for individuals 25 years of age or older. For more details contact Laurie Reynolds, director of program services, at CASAC’s Jamestown office at 664-3608.
