Lakewood Continues Holiday Tradition

Summerfest Activities Begin At 9 A.M. Tuesday

LAKEWOOD — The village of Lakewood will host its Fourth of July Summerfest on Chautauqua and Terrace avenues at Richard O. Hartley Park on Tuesday.

The event will include an annual running/walking race, vendors, food, refreshments, expanded children’s area, music, kids’ parade, community partners and special guests from the LECOM Health Challenge Web.com PGA TOUR followed by the fireworks display.

The Lakewood Family YMCA will start the day off with their Firecracker Run consisting of a 10K run, two-mile run and two-mile walk at 9 a.m. Pre-registration forms are available now at the Lakewood Family YMCA for $25 per person. Registration on the day of the race will take place from 7 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. at Hartley Park. The cost is $30.

Complimentary children’s events will include kids’ dashes for children ages 2 to 12 starting at 9:30 a.m. on the Packard Estates lawn and the M&T Bank money hunt for children ages 2 to 10at 11 a.m. at the playground. The Kidz Zone opens at 11:30 a.m. Tickets will admit children and families to a bounce house, 20-foot inflatable slide, dunk tank with local residents waiting to make a splash, and carnival games. An all-day wrist band pass to the Kidz Zone will also be available for purchase.

The vendor area will start at noon with food, refreshments, crafts, gifts, carnival games and caricatures available for purchase on Chautauqua Avenue. Community partners will also be there to promote their products and services.

Music and group children’s activities will begin at 11:30 a.m. in front of the park’s gazebo following the M&T Bank money hunt.

The featured live band for the evening from 6 to 10 p.m. will be Two For Flinching.

Other scheduled activities include the Lakewood History Museum, self-guided history walking tours, K-9 demonstration presented by the Lakewood Police Department from 1 to 1:30 p.m. at the park, Lakewood Memorial Library story walk, Model T fire truck display by the Lakewood Fire Department and the Chautauqua Lake Community Sailing Foundation Open House with complimentary sailing rides from the Lakewood beach house from noon to 4 p.m.

The second annual Lakewood on Wheels kids’ parade is slated for 5 p.m. at the intersection of Chautauqua and Terrace avenues in Lakewood. Prizes for first, second and third places will be awarded to the best decorated bike, wagon, scooter, stroller, etc.

New will be a patriotic salute at 5:30 p.m. on the gazebo patio sponsored by American Legion Post 1286 of Lakewood.

Players and guests of the LECOM Health Challenge Web.com PGA TOUR being held at Peek’n Peak again this year will also participate. A special V.I.P. area will be open from 5 to 11 p.m. on the Packard Estates lakefront lawn for those individuals sponsoring the event at a V.I.P. level where a “meet and greet” the players will be held.

The annual fireworks display, presented by Zambelli Fireworks and the village of Lakewood, will start at 10 p.m.
