Court Appointed Special Advocates of Chautauqua County held their ninth annual Come to the Table fundraiser recently.

Come to the Table is a unique table auction that attracts many community members. The 2017 event featured more than 25 tables all decorated in different themes including outdoor adventures and children’s playrooms.

“There really is a table for everyone,” said Kathy Park, CASA director of volunteers and programming. “Through the years the community of volunteers, table designers and sponsors have really made this event into a huge success for CASA of Chautauqua County. “Next year will be the 10th anniversary of Come to the Table and we are excited to make it the biggest and best event yet, we are incredibly thankful and grateful to everyone involved and that this event allows CASA to help more and more children in our county each year.”

This year’s event raised a little more than $23,000 for the organization, the largest total to date.

The mission of the Court Appointed Special Advocate program in Chautauqua County is to provide an independent voice in court, advocating for the best interest of abused and neglected children in the pursuit of safe and permanent homes.

Research shows children who have been assigned a CASA volunteer are substantially less likely to spend time in long-term foster care and half as likely to re-enter care. Children with a CASA volunteer also do better in school and score well on protective factors scales. One in four abused or neglected children in the program’s service area has an assigned advocate. Money raised from Come to the Table are used to fulfill CASA’s mission of supporting and promoting court-appointed volunteer advocacy for abused and neglected children.
