Gene L. Sadowski Scholarship Established

Gene and Pat Sadowski are pictured.

Gene Sadowski, a longtime Falconer resident, passed away in March at the age of 80. To honor his memory, his wife, Pat, established a scholarship fund at the Chautauqua Region Community Foundation to support Falconer students.

Born in 1935, Sadowski attended Falconer Central School and graduated in 1953. He took a job at Steel Partitions, which later became Dowcraft Corporation, and was a part of founding the DC Rollform Division. Sadowski was named president in 1991 and retired in 2000 after 46 years with the company.

According to his wife, Sadowski never once complained about going to work.

“He did what he loved,” she said.

What he also deeply loved, was his family.

Sadowski met the former Pat Pearson at Midway Park Roller Rink. According to Pat, it was not “love at first sight” but he was persistent. The two married on March 2, 1957, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Jamestown and were partners for the next 59 years. Together, they raised four children “Michael, Stephen, Lynn and Kathleen, who blessed them with four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Sadowski pursued many hobbies but was most passionate about woodworking, carpentry, furniture refurbishment and restoration, home remodeling and cabinetry. In fact, Pat recalled that in 1991 they purchased a dilapidated cottage in Mayville that Sadowski completely renovated and restored.

Due to his hard work and expertise, the family continues to gather at the cottage on the shores of Chautauqua Lake.

It was this passion, and his background in manufacturing, that inspired Mrs. Sadowski to honor her husband through a scholarship fund. The Gene L. Sadowski Memorial Vocational Scholarship is designed to benefit a Falconer High School graduating senior(s) majoring in a vocational field who has not received previous financial assistance.
