The Resource Center and Jamestown Public Schools have designed a collaborative program to help expose Washington Middle School’s self-contained special education students in fifth through eighth grades to future career opportunities in Chautauqua County.

“We are pleased to partner with JPS to assist in developing career pathways for the young people of Chautauqua County,” said Heather Brown, The Resource Center assistant executive director.

TRC provided the necessary support to allow in-class presentations to students describing the numerous career opportunities at its manufacturing plant in Jamestown. The collaboration also provided the funding to allow the students to visits the plant to get a firsthand look at the opportunities that were described during the school-based presentation. During the field trip to TRC, the students were able to witness the various jobs that TRC provides to people along with the importance of the jobs to the surrounding communities.

The goal of the collaboration is to prepare Jamestown students to be contributing members of the community and open their eyes to the many different jobs that are accessible to them.

“Being able to build on a community partnership and exposing our students to opportunities with a fabulous agency such as The Resource Center is something we at Jamestown Public Schools embrace and cherish,” said Patrick Smeraldo, Jamestown teacher and TRC liaison.
