Gerry Senior Citizens Treated To Performance

GERRY — The Rodeo Senior Citizens met recently for the group’s monthly luncheon and program at the Gerry United Methodist Church.

Allen Swanson, president, opened the gathering with a welcome and the blessing was given by Pastor Phil Shay. Those attending brought a dish of food to add to the meal. Lewis Heath provided the table decorations and wall decorations for Valentine’s Day. Heath also baked two Valentine cakes to add to the many desserts.

Wagon master O. Winston Bartholomew gave a detailed report of upcoming bus tours and distributed information sheets to all. John Sipos gave an overview of his recent journey on Groundhog Day to Punxsutawney, Pa. The minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Margie McIntyre and the financial report of the group was presented by treasurer Valerie Bartholomew. The list of those celebrating a birthday and the list of those celebrating an anniversary was read, and the appropriate songs were sung to these people. Heart-shaped boxes of candy were awarded to past president Leona Peterson and Heath.

The program for the day was guitar music and singing provided by Cecil Miller. A variety of Valentine songs were sung and many in the group sang along. The next gathering will take place on the second Friday in March at the Gerry United Methodist Church at noon. Those attending are asked to bring a dish of food to pass and their own table service. Festive table decorations with be provided by Jan Miller. The group concluded the day with all singing the closing hymn written in 1772 by Dr. John Fawcett, “Blest Be The Tie That Binds.” New members are welcome.
