Sinclairville 76ers Holds Organizational Meeting
SINCLAIRVILLE — The Sinclairville 76ers is the meals on wheels program for the Cassadaga Valley area. Hot meals, prepared in the Sinclairville Firehall kitchen, are delivered by volunteers three days a week, on three different routes. Meals are kept hot in special hot boxes which connect up to the electrical system of the van. One route which is about 60 miles, is to Villenova, Balcom Corners, Cherry Creek, Conewango Valley and Ellington. Another route, which is about 40 miles, goes to Kabob, Cassadaga, Lily Dale, Bear Lake, Stockton, Centralia and Sinclairville. The third route, which is about 20 miles, delivers meals to the Gerry area.
The vans are owned by the 76ers, and currently, a fund raiser is being held to help raise funds to replace one of the older vans. Donations are always welcome for help with the vans.
The Sinclairville 76ers was organized in 1976 to create senior housing in the Sinclairville area. The project was to change the former Sinclairville High School into senior apartments. Five years later, the meals on wheels program was started, and has continued since that time. The Sinclairville 76ers is a part of the Chautauqua County Office for the Aging. At a recent business meeting, which is held monthly, elections of officers for 2017 were held. Richard Smith of Sinclairville, who has been with the meals on wheels program for over 30 years, was re-elected as President. John Sipos, who also serves as a delivery person, and guest speaker, was elected vice president. Bonnie Larkin was elected as the secretary, and Margie McIntyre as the treasurer. Trustees include Donald Arnold, Patti France, Pete Skillman, Diane Shaw and Wally Jozwiak. The bookkeeper is Sue Alford, and the luncheon site manager is Elsie Livermore. Many people volunteer each week to be table hostesses. Susan Sipos is the creative typist for the monthly menus and the monthly calendars.
Jozwiak is the chef for the 76ers, and plans out the menus each month. Jozwiak said that volunteers for drivers and for delivery personnel are always needed. He said sometimes when the volunteers have other appointments, finding drivers and delivery people is difficult, so he would like to have a bank of volunteers; even is a person can help once or twice a month would be appreciated.
In addition to meals being delivered, the same meal is served at the Sinclairville Firehall Dining room on the same days of the week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, promptly at noon. Reservations for the luncheon site must be made by 9 a.m. on that day by calling 962-3455. For more information on the Sinclairville 76ers, call the same number. New members are always welcome.
