Gerry Senior Citizens Entertained With Country Music
GERRY — The Rodeo City Senior Citizens met recently for a luncheon and program at the United Methodist Church. President Leona Peterson welcomed all to the luncheon and Pastor Phil Shay gave the blessing prior to the meal.
Minutes of the previous meeting were read by secretary Margie McIntyre, and the treasurer’s report presented by Valerie Bartholomew. Wagon master O. Winston Bartholomew gave a report of upcoming bus tours for the group. Sunshine chairman Ruth Newton read the names of those having a birthday and anniversary.
Elections for 2017 were conducted by member John Sipos. Elected were Allen Swanson as president, Leona Peterson as vice president, Mrs. McIntrye as the secretary and Mrs. Bartholomew as the treasurer. Bartholomew was reappointed at wagon master by the president, and Mrs. Newton as the sunshine chairman.
President Peterson was given an applause of appreciation for her many years as president as she said she would like to take a break.
The entertainment featured country music sung by Patty Cook of Mayville. Mrs. Cook portrayed the late Patsy Cline, who was very popular in the early 1960s. Some of the many songs sung included Walking After Midnight, Have You Ever Been Lonely, and concluded with the popular hit song Crazy.
Mrs. Cook, dressed in a handmade western outfit with white cowboy boots, has been portraying Patsy Cline’s singing for 13 years now. The group concluded with all singing of “Blest Be The Tie That Binds” written by Dr. John Fawcett in 1772. The senior group of people meet for a luncheon and program on the second Friday of each month promptly at noon. New members are always welcome.
