The Advisory Council of Lutheran Foster Grandparent Program will be conducting a fundraiser Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Craft Brazil Beer and Wine Lounge in Jamestown.

FGP is a federal program guided by the Corporation for National and Community Service. It has been sponsored by Lutheran since 1983, and the majority of its participants serve within the Jamestown Public School District. Foster Grandparents are placed within the classrooms, and are role models, mentors, and friends to children with exceptional needs.

The program provides a way for volunteers age 55 and over to stay active by serving children and youth in their communities. The project focuses on matched person-to-person relationships between a child and a Foster Grandparent. This constant adult assists their assigned children to be successful in school.

The fundraiser coincides with National Mentoring Month, a campaign held in January to promote youth mentoring in the United States. It was inaugurated in 2002, and is spearheaded by the Harvard School of Public Health and the Corporation for National and Community Service.

A percentage of the evening’s profits will support the local Foster Grandparent Program. To enhance the evening’s festivities, there will be baskets raffles and a 50/50 raffle. Staff and “Friends of FGP” will be available to share success stories, tell you about the project, or raise awareness of the great work FGP volunteers do within our area.

Brazil Craft Beer and Wine Lounge is located at 10 E. Fourth St. in Jamestown.
