JCC To Host Winter Acting Course

Ron Orbach, Film, television, and Broadway actor, will teach The Acting Diagnostic as a one-credit course during Jamestown Community College’s Winterim session.

The course is open to JCC students and community members. To register, call JCC at 338-1018.

Classes meet from 3-5 p.m. Dec. 16 and from 3-5:30 p.m. on Jan. 4, 6, 9, 11 and 13. Final performances will be presented at 6 p.m. Jan. 13.

Students will develop fundamental acting techniques and the art of script analysis, a crucial skill for an actor. Through self-observation, participants will learn about expression, how to assess their strengths and deficiencies, and how to apply what they discover through a monologue, poem, or a song that they will perform at the end of the course.

Orbach performed in Clueless, several television shows and in Broadway and off-Broadway productions. He received Chicago’s Jeff Award and a Theater LA/Ovations nomination for his performance as Amos Hart and won a Theater LA/Ovations award for best director for “The Ellis Jump.”

Orbach also won the 2012 Equity Joseph Jefferson Award for acting in the performance of “A Midsummer’s Night Dream” at the Chicago Shakespeare Theater.
