Daughters Of The American Revolution Honors Veterans

The Jamestown Chapter National Society Daughters of the American Revolution opened its chapter house for veterans and their families to honor veterans of the Vietnam War for the 50th anniversary commemoration.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, Regent Connie Pilato and Past Regent Linda Lucas led the recognition ceremony. Proclamations from Mayor Sam Teresi, Governor Andrew Cuomo and President Barack Obama were presented and read to the group of veterans and guests. Veterans attending were introduced and thanked for their service. Those attending were: Kenneth C. Furlow, Ninth Marine Regiment, U.S. Marine Corps; Henry Hagenah, U.S. Army, USAHAC; C. Jeffery Bloomquist, 12th Armored Cavalry, U.S. Army; Kenneth Orlando, U.S. Army Security Agency; and Melvin L. Feather, SSG Co D, First Cav. Division.

Guest speakers included Kristy J. Woodfield, Legal Assistance of Western NY, who spoke about the Chautauqua County coalition of agencies and services for veterans; Greg Carlson, director Chautauqua County Veteran Services, and Dr. Gregory Rabb, president of the Jamestown City Council.

Following the program, refreshments were served and a tour of the historic Partridge-Sheldon Mansion was conducted.

Any woman 18 years and older who can prove lineage to a patriot who aided in the American Revolution is eligible for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. For more information on becoming a member, call 664-4144.
