TRC Hires Psychiatric NP

Abby Wenzel

The Resource Center has hired Abby Wenzel as a psychiatric nurse practitioner.

Wenzel has been practicing as a psychiatric nurse practitioner since 2007. She obtained her associate’s and bachelor’s degrees in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh at Bradford, and she earned her master’s in nursing from the University of Pittsburgh. Wenzel is certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center as an adult psychiatric and mental health nurse practitioner.

She said she chose to enter the mental health field because of her “enjoyment for caring for individuals with mental health needs and concerns, and desire to decrease the stigma associated with mental health and addiction.”

“I enjoy taking care of clients with a variety of diagnoses within the mental health field. I enjoy the long-term relationship that is developed working in an outpatient setting,” Wenzel said.

She said she decided to join The Resource Center because of TRC’s “commitment to care for clients as individuals and to the community to provide mental health and addictions treatment for those who need it.” While at The Resource Center, she wants to “continue to provide mental health services to the community in a compassionate and caring manner that allows each individual to reach their goals and minimize psychiatric symptoms that interfere with their ability to live a fulfilling life.”

“We are pleased to have Abby working with us at The Resource Center,” said Jennifer Gesing, director of behavioral health and care coordination services. “She brings with her years of experience and recovery-focused services. We are happy she has joined our team.”

Wenzel lives in Warren with her husband and three children. In her spare time, she enjoys being outside, camping and spending time with family and friends. She serves on the board of directors for Family Services of Warren County and volunteers with the Warren YMCA’s gymnastics team.

Wenzel works in The Resource Center’s Counseling and Psychiatric Services offices at 880 E. Second St., Jamestown, and in TRC’s Diagnostic and Treatment Center at 75 Jones and Gifford Ave. To schedule an appointment, call the counseling office at 661-1590 or the psychiatric services office at 661-1541.
