A new law firm is coming to downtown Jamestown.

Shane Uber of Uber Law recently cut the ribbon on his new location on Cherry Street. Uber graduated in 2012 from Michigan State University College of Law and then started his firm the following year in 2013.

“My family is from here,” Uber said of why he started his business in Jamestown. “I love it here.”

Uber received his undergraduate degree from the University of Buffalo, where he had the chance to live in Buffalo. Despite the experience of living in Buffalo and Michigan he still ended up deciding to begin his law firm in Jamestown.

“I loved it here more,” Uber said.

He pointed to the seasonal changes and the proximity to his family as the main factors for keeping him in the area.

He has worked at his old location at 20 W. Third St. since its inception, but decided that a timely change was needed. Uber is awaiting his brother, Sean, to receive back his New York state bar exam test results. Uber anticipates that his brother will then be joining his firm on Cherry Street.

“We thought it was a good opportunity to move over to this building and start where we’re going to be for the next 30 to 40 years,” Uber said.

Uber said the potential for his business being in the downtown area is really what drove him to relocate. He said the feel of the old buildings and the downtown area in general is something that attracted him to the office space.

“It’s more so just about the feel of downtown just because it has such a great vibe,” Uber said. “I can walk everywhere.”

He believed that being downtown will improve business and the fact that he’s closer to everything in the city gives him and his brothers an advantage.

Uber’s youngest brother, Tyler, is currently in his second year at the University of Buffalo Law School and is expected to join his two brothers at the law firm after he graduates and passes his New York state bar exam, as well.

Uber Law handles a range of cases from real estate, criminal cases and corporate cases to divorce cases and personal injuries.

Uber elaborated that the downtown feel he referenced is just everyday walking to the bank and seeing someone he knows and his feeling that Jamestown is a tight-knit community.
