There are a handful of options for Western New York residents looking to purchase a swimming pool or spa, but only one that will ensure the overall quality of the water they contain.

Clear View Pools & Spas of WNY, located at 707 Fairmount Ave. in Jamestown, is owned and operated by Scott Axelson, a former engineer who worked as a researcher and developer to improve the quality of several items.

Axelson sells above-ground and in-ground swimming pools and Saratoga Spas. He also sells equipment and supplies, and provides installation service needed for pools and spas. Since opening his business in May 2013, Axelson has served residents in Chautauqua and Cattaraugus counties and Warren County, Pa.

However, he said it’s his quality of service that sets him apart from the competition.

“I will explain the problem, and what you need to fix the problem,” he said. “I will educate and help you along each step. I’ll give you a long-term solution so you have a clear pool water to swim in. It doesn’t matter if you bought it from me, I’ll do what I can do to help.”

Axelson said he prides himself on his inventory, which was primarily manufactured in either New York state or the U.S.

“That’s a real point of emphasis with me; supporting state suppliers and American-made products as much as possible,” he said.

The business has chemicals, starting with a full line of Clear View products, of which Axelson is an exclusive dealer in the area. He also shares his name and logo with Clear View, a California-based chemical company, from which he has received permission.

Axelson, born and raised in Frewsburg, lived in southern New Hampshire for more than 20 years and transitioned into the pool business after his employer down-sized after 9/11.

“I had been working in a ski shop for fun, and when the manager left in 2002 they asked me to become a manager; but I had to learn how to sell pools,” he said. “Being that there is a fair amount of chemistry and technology associated with the installation and general upkeep of this kind of equipment, and given my background in engineering, I felt I could apply myself to that.”

Clear View Pools & Spas of WNY hours are from noon to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, with expanded hours in April, including some Sunday afternoons. Also, Axelson said he will schedule appointments with customers outside of business hours. For more information, call 338-4850 or email clearviewpoolsny@gmail.com.
