Turner Series Continues Today

CHAUTAUQUA — The annual Turner Winter Series, hosted by Gregory Peterson, will continue today with an interview of Joe Gerace, newly appointed director of campus security and safety for Chautauqua Institution. Prior to his current position with Chautauqua Institution, Gerace served as Chautauqua County’s Sheriff for 24 years, culminating a 40-year career with the Sheriff’s Office. The Turner Community Center, formerly the Turner Elementary School, is located at 4840 West Lake Road, Route 394, Mayville.

Church Ladies To Meet Thursday

KIANTONE — The Kiantone Congregational Church Ladies Aid will meet Thursday at the fellowship hall. Eleven ladies met for the Christmas luncheon. Cindy Hotchkiss and Jean Berg were hostesses. Jean also opened with a prayer and gave each member an embroidered snowflake. Devotionals were given by Irene Levon titled “Christmas Legends To Remember.” Loretta Smith read an article by Pastor Hannon. Karen Swanson read the secretary’s report and Joan Spontaneo read the secretary’s report. Both were accepted. Marilyn Lewis read a letter from Amy Miller titled “Missionary to Alaska” and closed the meeting with prayer.

Audubon To Host Fundraiser

FREWSBURG — The Audubon Community Nature Center will mark the first day of spring with a fundraiser at Miller’s Coconut Grove, aka Shorty’s, 64 Old Fentonville Road, Frewsburg. Between 4-10 p.m. on Wednesday, 20 percent of all food and drink sales will be donated for the Audubon Community Nature Center’s trails and habitats. Audubon staff members and volunteers will be on hand from 5-8:30 p.m. to chat and to offer giveaway items. Miller’s Coconut Grove has a full dinner and bar menu. No reservations are required, but table reservations are suggested. To reserve a table, call Miller’s Coconut Grove at 569-2212.

Village Board To Meet Wednesday

LAKEWOOD — The Lakewood Village Board will meet at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the board room of the Caprino Municipal Building, 20 W. Summit St., to take action on the amended findings statement and an expanded technical memorandum related to aquatic herbicide applications. The board’s decision to apply or not apply herbicides in areas of Chautauqua Lake off of Lakewood’s shores will be made after the permit applications have been submitted. The public is welcome to attend.

Fire Auxiliary To Gather Today

BUSTI — The Busti Fire Department Auxiliary will hold its regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. today at the Busti Fire Hall. The group will discuss helping the Busti Men’s Club with the Easter egg hunt and also the county auxiliary meeting the auxiliary will host in May. All members are welcome to attend.

West Side Women Gathered

The first meeting of 2019 for the West Side Women was held on Friday, Feb. 22, at the Bethel Lutheran Church. Annual committee reports from each of the group’s officers were presented at this time. The meeting will be on Friday at 1 p.m. at Bethel Lutheran Church, with a program by Lind Funeral Home scheduled.
