Dem Committee Meets Jan. 4

The Chautauqua County Democratic Committee will be meeting Thursday, Jan. 3, at 6 p.m. at the Taco Hut, 203 E. Third St. Anyone interested in running for public office, particularly County Legislature, is welcome to attend the meeting to learn more information. Mobile Pantry

To Be In Ashville

ASHVILLE — The Food Bank of Western New York Mobile Pantry Truck from Buffalo will be at the Ashville United Methodist Church on Friday. Open hours are 10:30 a.m. to noon and 3-5 p.m. The truck brings fresh produce and some staple items. To receive free food, proof of address from the following ZIP codes is required: Ashville 14710, Bemus Point 14712, Celoron 14720, Lakewood 14750, Niobe 14758, Panama 14767, Stow 14785 and anyone who lives in the town of Busti. Polar Bear Swim Planned Jan. 13

SILVER CREEK — The 18th annual Polar Bear Swim for Charity will be held Sunday, Jan. 13, at Firehouse on the Lake, 23 Jackson St. in the village of Silver Creek. Money raised will be donated to Buffalo Children’s Hospital, the Silver Creek Rescue Squad, Sunset Bay Fire Department and the Silver Creek Food Pantry. Swimmers take a quick dip into Lake Erie for the aforementioned charities promptly at 1 p.m. Money is raised through pledges and donations. Prizes are awarded for the “Best Dressed Swimmer” and the “Swimmer Generating Most Pledges.” Non-swimming events include Fantasy Black Jack, Chinese Auction and music by “Rock ‘n Roll to the Rescue.” Food will also be served.

City To Collect Christmas Trees

The Jamestown City Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department announced that it will begin annual pick-up of discarded Christmass trees for recycling beginning Monday, weather permitting. Residents are urged to place their tree on the terrace between the street and sidewalk and, if possible, to keep visible should a large snowfall occur. All trees should be removed from plastic bags with lights and tree stands removed. Anyone with questions is asked to call 483-7523.

School Board Meeting Moved

SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley Central School Board of Education meeting scheduled for Jan. 10 has been changed to Jan. 3 in the Board Room, room 11 in the Pine Valley Elementary School. Meetings begin at 7 p.m. and are open to the public.

Cross-Country Skiing Jan. 4

Allegany State Park will host a cross-country skiing event on Jan. 4. All levels are welcome. to attend. Mini learn-to ski clinic and tips will be provided. Those attending should meet at the Summit Warming Hut from 10:30 a.m. to noon Fridays in January and February. Contact J-Con Parks for ski rentals at 354-9163.
