Ellery Seniors To Meet On Friday

The Ellery Senior Citizens met for monthly meetings at St. Timothy Lutheran Church. The Harmony Gals Quartet entertained the group with barbershop-style music. The business meetings opened with the flag salute. For devotions, Jan Stowell shared humorous excerpts mothers say to their children and a prayer of blessing for mothers and Ola Olson spoke about our caring Lord, always present for us. June birthdays for Mary Carpenter and Miriam Price were celebrated. Kitchen Committees were Fran Bishop, Joanne Capizzi, Mary Carpenter and Miriam Price. The next meeting will be Friday at noon where Sam Genco will speak about scuba diving and share artifacts and photos.

Class Of 1955 Met At Alfies

The Chautauqua High School Class of 1955 recently held its 63rd reunion at Alfies. The group had six members attend this year of the original 35 in the class. Next year’s reunion will be at Alfies on Friday June 21, 2019, at 1 p.m. Thanks to Al Woodard and Juanita S. Porter for making arrangements and contacts. Thanks also to Eleanor H. Barlett for the delicious maroon and white (school colors) cupcakes. The group hopes to see everyone next year.

Music To Return To South Dayton

SOUTH DAYTON — Music on the Square in the South Dayton Gazebo will be held from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesday featuring 23 Skidoo. Those attending should bring lawn chairs for seating. Refreshments will be available.

Programs To Be Held This Month

Chautauqua Opportunities Alzheimer’s Services programs for July: Do you know someone experiencing memory loss? How common is dementia? Learn what dementia means and what the different types of dementia are. A Dementia Basics presentation will be held at the Memorial Library of Little Valley on Thursday, July 19, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. located at 110 Rock City St., Little Valley. Also a presentation on Caregiver Stress will be given. This presentation will be held on July 23 from 6:30-7:30 p.m. at the Hazelton Public Library, 891 Busti-Sugar Grove Road. Support Group Meets Wednesday

The Breast Cancer Support Group of Jamestown will be meeting Wednesday at Alfies on Fairmount Avenue. Dinner will be at 6 p.m. with guest speaker Andy Dickson, vice president of community engagement and planning of Hospice, 20 W. Fairmount Ave., Lakewood, at 7 p.m. Guests are welcome. New members are also welcome.

Historical Society To Be At Library

This year marks the 200th anniversary of the first settlers arriving to what is now the town of Leon. In recognition of Leon’s bicentennial, the Leon Historical Society and Tina Scherman will run an educational program at the Prendergast Library. “Pioneer’s Journey” is a free event at the library on Tuesday, July 17, at 2 p.m. Children will learn about why pioneers came to New York, how they traveled, and more fun facts and stories about the history of Western New York. The program is interactive and aimed at children ages 8 and up. For more information, call 484-7135, ext. 234, or stop by the Children’s Room at the library.
