Church Hosts Annual Meeting

Don Adams, moderator, called the 202nd annual meeting of the Kiantone Congregational Church to order. Mel McGinnis, pastor, opened with prayer, minutes of the 2017 annual meeting and reports were accepted as read. David Goggin presented and explained the church treasurer’s report. the 2018 proposed Benevolence and Church Budget were approved and accepted as well as nominees for 2018. They are Ken Dahlgren, trustee; Bob Rohm, deacon; Beverly Andrews, deaconess; Lisa Johnson, church clerk; David Goggin, treasurer and Tami Clement, moderator. A vote of confidence for the pastor was taken and passed.

Workshop To Be Held In Dunkirk

DUNKIRK — The State University at Fredonia Technology Incubator will host a workshop designed to assist entrepreneurs in bringing their business idea to reality. The workshop will be from 1-3:30 p.m. Friday at the incubator, 214 Central Ave., Dunkirk. Using the Business Model Canvas as a foundational document, members of the workshop will learn tools and techniques to validate the facts that will help them move from start-up idea to company. The workshop will be conducted by Ken Rother, the Managing Director of Cornell University eLab student accelerator program. SOUPer Bowl Is Sunday At Legion

The seventh annual SOUPer Bowl event will be held Sunday at the Lakewood American Legion, located at 174 Chautauqua Ave. in Lakewood. Tickets for the event, which offers soups from more than eight vendors, are $12 for adults and $6 for children under 12. Each participant can cast their vote for the best soup prepared by area caterers and restaurants. The winners of the event will the creator of the best soup and two worthy causes. Proceeds will benefit robotic surgery at UPMC Chautauqua WCA and WCA Foundation’s Rapaport Fund that gives grants to help fight breast and other cancers at the UPMC Chautauqua WCA Cancer Center.

Allen Park Club Meets Saturday

The Allen Park Women’s Club will meet at the Allen Park Men’s Club on Saturday at 10 a.m. for their annual membership brunch and installation of officers. The officers will be providing the meal. All members are to bring their annual dues of $10 to the meeting. This past December the Allen Park Women’s Club held their annual Christmas Community Caroling event in Allen Park near the pavilion. The Jamestown High School Madrigal Choir was on hand to lead the caroling. Santa Claus visited with the young children, while others went on a sleigh ride or warmed up with hot chocolate.

Church Offering Marriage Event

The Hillside Wesleyan Church is offering the free marriage event, “Laugh Your Way to a Better Marriage” from 7-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 2, at the church, located at 753 Prospect Ave. The event is open to the public. The presentation is intended for couples, singles, those who are married but attending alone. Childcare will be provided for children ages five years and under. Parents are asked to RSVP if childcare will be needed during the event.
