Historical Society To Meet Tuesday

FREWSBURG — The Carroll Historical Society will hold the first board Meeting for 2018 on Tuesday in the Myers Memorial Library at 6 p.m. Discussion of the grant and reconstruction at the society will be discussed. This is an open meeting and the public is invited to attend. The new board officers elected in November are Harold Bennett, president; Carolyn Moynihan, vice president; Rose Mary Carvella, secretary; Dorothy Stoffer, treasurer; and Joyce Hansen, co-treasurer. Other trustees are Jim Buck, Betty Kolstee, DeForest Warn and Fran Moynihan.

Culture Day Event Canceled

The Scandinavian Culture Day that was scheduled to meet today at Jamestown Community College is canceled because of the cold weather and the closing of JCC. The next event will be Feb. 3.

Applications For Pre-K Offered

Southwestern Central School is now accepting applications for the universal Pre-Kindergarten program. Admission is by lottery drawing, and the program is contingent on New York state funding. Parents can come to the elementary school office at any time during school hours and sign up. Completed applications must be returned by 4 p.m. on April 13 to be eligible. Birthdays must fall between Dec. 3, 2013, and Dec. 1, 2014. Anyone with questions is asked to call 664-1881. Any family feeling that their child age 3 and older may have a disability that have not been identified should contact the school or pupil service at 664-4675.

Chamber Singers Hosting Concerts

The Chautauqua Chamber Singers will present a 12th Night concert “Once for a Shining Hour, Heav’n Touched Earth” today at First Lutheran Church in Warren, Pa., and Sunday at First Presbyterian Church in Jamestown. The concerts both start at 4 p.m. The 12th Night historically marks the end of the 12 days of Christmas on Jan. 6, which is the feast of the Epiphany. In this Jamestown tradition, the costumed Chautauqua Chamber Singers processing in candlelight, with a bagpipe prelude, supported by traditional readings, will perform stunning choral music both new and old. SW School Board Meets Tuesday

The Southwestern Central School Board will meet on Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the board of education room at the middle school. The meeting is open to the public.

Story Hour To

Be Held Today

The Sinclairville Free Library invites the public to a special story hour event with local author Kathleen Lombardo which will be held today from 10:30-11:30 a.m. Lombardo will present her recently published picture book: “Clover: The Cow that Didn’t Think She Was a Cow.” This is a story about a girl and her pet cow. Clover doesn’t think she’s a cow. The author will be available to answer questions about Clover and the creation of the book. Cows will be featured in stories and crafts during this special Story Hour for all ages. Children under 8 must be accompanied by a caregiver. The library is located at 15 Main St.
