Snowshoe Hike Set For Tuesday

Allegany State Park will host a sunset snowshoe or evening hike at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday. Hikes will be held every Tuesday in January and February. Starting at the Summit Warming Hut on the Red House side of the park, Allegany State Park will host a hike on a new trail called Bear Paw dedicated to snowshoe use and hiking with dogs, as long as they are leashed. The 2.4 trail is graded as easy to moderate with some slight elevation changes. Participants should dress for the weather, bring a flashlight or headlamp, water and snack. Those participating are welcome to stay after the hike to socialize in the Warming Hut. If there is no snow, the group will walk the trails of the Art Roscoe Area. Snowshoes are available to use during the program. Supplies are limited. Those attending should call in advance to reserve a pair at 354-9101, ext. 232. Glogg Contest Has Record Turnout

In the 15th annual Busti Glogg Society contest, Ian Anderson of Jamestown captured the Benevolent Viking award for his Swedish brew. 2017 garnered a record number of contestants and many who were placed on the waiting list. The entries are judged for taste, color and balance. Anderson quipped, “This may be the proudest day of my life.” Due to a demand, the society will be opening a youth division in 2018. The 16th contest is planned for December 2018.

CCPC To Meet Wednesday

The Chautauqua County Planning Board’s monthly meeting will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 3 at 4 p.m. in the second floor board room at the BWB Building, 201 W. Third St. Jamestown. All meetings of the County Planning Board are open to the public.

Vietnam Vets To Meet Tuesday

FREWSBURG — The David L. Woodburn Chapter of the Vietnam Veterans of America will meet at the Samuel Derby American Legion Post 556 in Frewsburg at 7 p.m. Tuesday. The speaker for the evening will be Jack Anderson, a Navy veteran who will tell of his experiences on the USS Rushmore during the Cuban Missile Crisis in October 1962. AOC To Meet Jan. 4 In Russell

On Thursday, Jan. 4, the Allegheny Outdoor Club (AOC) will hold its first planning meeting of the new year at the home of Debra and John Young at 1588 Townline Road in Russell. We will be scheduling events for January, February and March. This will be be an eating meeting beginning at 5:30 p.m. with the planning meeting to follow. Participants should bring a dish to pass. CV School Board To Meet Jan. 8

The Cassadaga Valley School Board will meet on Monday, Jan. 8, at 7 p.m. in the middle-high school multi-purpose room. The meeting is open to the public.
