Lecture To Be Shown Saturday
John Q. Barrett, St. John’s University Law Professor and Robert H. Jackson Center Elizabeth S. Lenna Fellow and board member, delivered the Supreme Court Historical Society 2017 Leon Silverman Lecture at the United States Supreme Court on Nov. 1, entitled “Attorney General Robert H. Jackson and President Franklin D. Roosevelt.” Chief Justice John Roberts introduced the program and speaks highly of Barrett and of the importance of the Jackson Center’s work in his remarks. The program will air at 8:50 p.m. Saturday on C-SPAN 3.
Christmas Meal Offered Monday
KENNEDY — Kennedy First United Methodist Church will host its annual Christmas dinner on Christmas Day from 1:30-3:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. The dinner is an opportunity to socialize and share a meal with others. There is no charge and dress is casual. Reservations are appreciated, but not necessary, by calling the church office at 267-2645. The church is located at the corner of Church and Second streets, Kennedy, and is handicapped-accessible through the lower side door.
Music Program Hosted Sunday
STOCKTON — The Stockton Community Church, 4554 West Railroad Ave., Stockton, will present a Christmas music program on Sunday at the 11 a.m. worship service. The music will include a variety of Christmas songs presented by talented members of the congregation. The public is invited to attend.
Rails To Trails Meets Sunday
On Sunday, Christmas Eve, at 2 p.m., members and friends of Chautauqua Rails to Trails will gather at the Prospect Station Trailhead and hike about a quarter-mile to commemorate a railroad accident that happened on Christmas Eve, 1872, and killed more than 20 people The group will meet to remember the accident and the lives of the people lost. Caroling To Be Held In S. Dayton
There will be community caroling in the South Dayton Gazebo on Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Those who attend can enjoy hot chocolate and cookies at the village library.
Support Group Gathers Today
The Alzheimer’s Association monthly Caregiver Support Group will meet today from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Fluvanna Community Church on Fluvanna Avenue Extension. The group is for anyone 18 years or older who is caring for a person with Alzheimer’s disease or other dementia-related diagnoses. Poker Run To Benefit Hospice
The Mayville American Legion Post 493 hosted its eighth annual Jack Carlson Memorial Lawnmower Poker Run in September. It was another successful year with over 167 participants raising $9,141 to be used to support Hospice and other local charities. Proceeds exceeding last year by $1,000. The committee thanked its sponsors, volunteers, participants and those that gave donations at the poker run.
