Alternate Parking Begins Sunday

Beginning Sunday, daily alternate parking will be in effect in the city of Jamestown. Vehicles are to park on the street with odd numbers on odd days of the week and even numbers on even days. Daily parking alternates at 10 a.m. each day. There is no grace period.

Domestic Violence Walk Is Friday

October is National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Chautauqua County Coalition Against Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault will be sponsoring its 20th annual Walk Against Domestic Violence and annual United Day Celebration on Friday. The walk will begin at noon at Northwest Arena and continue down Third Street to Tracy Plaza. The Unity Day Celebration will be held inside the lobby of City Hall immediately following the walk. The keynote speaker will be Christine Schuyler of the Chautauqua County Department of Health. Proclamations will be given by Mayor Sam Teresi and County Executive Vince Horrigan. The events are free and open to the public.

Jemison To Speak At Lunch Series

FREDONIA — Rick Jemison, Seneca Nation tribal councilor and historian, will be the main speaker at the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences Brown Bag Lunch Series on Wednesday, Oct. 4, from noon to 1 p.m., in Williams Center Room 204-ABC at the State University at Fredonia. Jemison’s presentation, which relates to Fredonia’s Convocation year theme, “Transformations,” will center on the topic of cultural transformations. The talk is free and open to students, faculty, staff and community member. A free lunch, provided by the Faculty Student Association, will be available for attendees.

Capital Projects Comm. To Meet

A meeting of the Jamestown Public Schools Board of Education Capital Projects Committee will take place on Wednesday, Oct. 4, at 6:30 p.m. in the board room at 197 Martin Road, Jamestown. The public is welcome to attend.

Vietnam Vets To Meet Tuesday

FREWSBURG — The David L. Woodburn Chapter 978, Vietnam Veterans of America, will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 3, at the Frewsburg American Legion. Treena Szuba, medical social worker at the VA Clinic in Jamestown, will hold a dialogue session. Questions will be answered from those attending. A discussion on events from the last VVA State Council meeting and bi-annual convention will also be held. Call Bob Lewis at 569-2115 for more information. All veterans are welcome to attend.

Library To Host Oktoberfest Event

Prendergast Library will be hosting a special Oktoberfest fundraiser titled “Books, Brats, & Beers” after regular library hours from 5:30-8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 6. Admission is free, and food and drink will be available for purchase. Several books will be spotlighted on display and available to check out on related topics such as travel books for Germany, titles on German heritage, and even books on how to brew your own beer.
