Jamestown Seniors Hold Meeting

The Jamestown Senior Center met recently for refreshments furnished by Brookdale of Lakewood.

The meeting was called to order by Shirley Vandenburg, director. The group pledged allegiance to the flag and sang God Bless America.

The group’s birthday in January was Carm Bellitto. New members John and Mary Barone were welcomed. Dues for 2018 are still being accepted.

The James Prendergast Library is hosting a senior book reading at 1 p.m. Thursday.

Information will be released soon on a trip to Sprague’s Restaurant in April. The group is organizing a trip to Nashville, Tenn., from Sept. 16-22; a $75 deposit is required to sign up. Door prizes were won by Marilyn Wilcox, Marilyn Lindquist, Delia Westerdahl, Roxann Beebe and Vandenburg.

Lisa Piazza from Brookdale spoke about the organization’s facilities and what is available to the community. Brookdale will sponsor an AARP driving course on Feb. 22 and March 22 from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided. For reservations, call 665-2414.

There will be a seminar on “Aging Smart in Today’s World” at the Fluvanna Fire Hall on April 11. There is a $5 attendance fee.

The group’s next meeting will be Feb. 27 with a tureen dinner. Those attending should bring their own table service and a dish to pass. New members are welcome.
