A Laughing Matter
Northwest Arena To?Host Wits ‘n Giggles Comedy Series
Coordinators of the monthly comedy series hosted at Northwest Arena is inviting the community at large to celebrate the impending New Year against a backdrop of laughter.
The arena’s third-floor Jamestown Mattress Arena Club will present a special holiday installment of its “Wits ‘n Giggles” stand-up comedy series Saturday at 7:30 p.m. — showcasing headliner Pete George and feature act Josh Morrow.
Now in its seventh season, the “Wits ‘n Giggles” series was first hosted in 2012 to great community response. It was established at the arena as a supplement to the annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, hosted by the National Comedy Center every August, offering community members an opportunity to take in stand-up comedy performances during fall and winter months when comedy programming typically experiences a lull.
Opening Saturday’s program will be Morrow, who began his career as the steward of The Village Idiot at Lakewood Village Tavern, Cleveland’s longest running and most attended open mic. Under Morrow’s tenure, the show grew from the usual smattering of local heroes and budding comics to the must-visit open mic of the week.
He developed an ability to make anyone he brought to the stage feel like a star, and audiences bought in, giving the whole show an event feel despite its humble origins. Following his success on the open mic scene, Morrow started to tour the Midwest and developed a routine that audiences will never forget.
George, who will headline the show, has earned the moniker “The Rock Star of Comedy.” A musical upbringing, combined with having been a bright child trapped in an eccentric environment, makes for one of the most unique comedy shows on the circuit. Described as a sitcom waiting to happen, George’s variety of comedy and music has the ability to entertain cross-over audiences. After many of his shows, audience members offer their praise by exclaiming, “We can’t wait to see you on TV!”
“Wits ‘n Giggles” is held in the Jamestown Mattress Arena Club, located on the top floor of Northwest Arena. Tickets for the event are $10 presale, $12 day of show and $5 for students. It is an 18-and-over show.
