‘Wits ‘n Giggles’ To Feature Seward, Mahoney In Saturday Performance
Northwest Arena’s third-floor Jamestown Mattress Arena Club will reverberate with the sound of laughter as the arena prepares for its next installment of “Wits ‘n Giggles” stand-up comedy series.
The will feature the comedic stylings of headliner Jim Seward, feature guest Dan Mahoney and host Robb Will, all of whom will appear in the 7:30 p.m. program Saturday.
Now in its sixth season, the “Wits ‘n Giggles” series was first hosted in 2012 to great community response. It was established at the arena as a supplement to the annual Lucille Ball Comedy Festival, hosted by the National Comedy Center every August, offering community members an opportunity to take in stand-up comedy performances during fall and winter months when comedy programming typically experiences a lull.
Opening Saturday’s performance will be Mahoney, a Buffalo-born comedian-actor. According to his biography, Mahoney is a great comedian and a bad actor whose unique observation on life has earned him industry acclaim and a loyal following. He has survived drinking, dating, corporate life and cancer, and draws from these experiences to deliver an unforgettable performance. He has earned the status of regional finalist of Comedy Central’s “Open Mic Fight,” and is looking forward to bringing his talents to Jamestown.
Headlining the show is Seward. Hailing from Watertown, Tennessee, Seward served 26 years in the U.S. military before turning to a career in comedy. His quick one-liners, and his takes on kids, marriage and travel takes the audience on a nonstop ride of laughter. He has quickly become a local favorite, and has opened for one of the original Latin Kings of Comedy, Joey Medina, as well as Tommy Davidson. According to Seward, doing stand-up allows him to voice a lot of things people think, but are just too polite to say out loud.
As the longtime host of “Wits ‘n Giggles,” Will will emcee the event. The self-proclaimed 67th funniest comedian in Jamestown, Will enlisted in the U.S. Army after either losing interest in or failing out of college. He started his comedy career after surviving multiple tragedies, including one that left him medically labeled “one of a kind.” He has one movie credit to his name, “Battlefield – Home,” and he’s part of two world records. Out of necessity, Will jokes about his reality.
“Wits ‘n Giggles” is held in the Jamestown Mattress Arena Club, located on the top floor of the Northwest Arena. Tickets for the event are $10 presale, $12 day of show and $5 for students. It is an 18-and-over show.
