SHERMAN — For the second year in a row, WRFA-LP 107.9 FM’s “Rolling Hills Radio” will conduct a live taping for its program from the site of the area’s premier summer music venues.

This year, the program will spotlight the Saturday morning performance of Jim Donovan and the Sun King Warriors at the 26th annual Great Blue Heron Music Festival, beginning at approximately 10 a.m. in the dance tent.

“This is a continuation of something that we started last year, which is to feature a band playing live at the Great Blue Heron festival,” said Ken Hardley, program host. “We got an amazing response when we showcased Stewed Mulligan last year that I knew we had to do it again. This year, we were lucky enough to get Jim Donovan and his group on board, and I’m glad because we’ve been trying to get that band on the show for a year and a half. I think they’ll fit in nicely because I like Jim’s take on rhythm and spirituality, and how we can use rhythm to get in touch with our inner selves.”

Fronted by Donovan, who formerly drummed for the national act Rusted Root, the band was formed last year after Donovan’s 11-year hiatus from the music industry following his 2005 departure. Their debut album, “Sun King Warriors,” was subsequently released to critical national acclaim, and wide non-commercial and AAA radio play. Sun King Warriors can best be described as a mix of Americana rock, with a strong dose of tribal style drumming.

The group’s performance at the Great Blue Heron festival will be taped live, and broadcast on WRFA at a later date. “Rolling Hills Radio” will also host another off-site performance at the new Chautauqua Institution Amphitheater on Sunday, July 30 — the fourth consecutive year the program has held a summer concert on the institution grounds.
