A well-respected Jamestown musician who was taken far too soon will again be remembered in an annual benefit that bears his name.

The life of Randy Hofgren will be honored Sunday, with the fourth annual Randy Jam scheduled to take place at the Celoron Legion from 1-7 p.m. in honor of an accomplished musician who passed away in 2014 at the age of 42 after a brief illness.

The six-hour event will include live music and several fundraising activities with the ultimate aim of collecting money for donation to A Fresh Start, which aims to assist with the area’s opiate crisis and help those afflicted to fight their addiction. According to Sean Patrick McGraw, an organizer of the event and musician with whom Hofgren shared many a stage, the event serves a double cause that both honors a friend’s memory and assists a community cause.

“It’s really primarily about Randy’s friends remembering Randy, but ostensibly it’s also nice that we can raise money for a charity while we do it,” McGraw said. “Randy was loved by many people, and we’ve been very blessed to have big turnouts every year. The Randy Jam is a wonderful gathering of people who all had Randy in common. And I think he would approve of people being festive in his memory instead of sad.”

Hofgren was a highly respected musician who played with several regional acts including Synergy, Everett Lee and Underground Stampede and Sacred Fire. Hofgren’s musical career included playing and touring with the Sean Patrick McGraw Band, opening for country superstars Toby Keith in 2009 and Eric Church in 2010.

Scheduled to appear and perform at this year’s Randy Jam are: McGraw, Matt Maloof, Left of Center, Smokin’ 45 and DJ Felony, who will also emcee the event.

A $5 donation for admission is requested. Basket giveaways, auctions and other fundraising will be held with net proceeds benefiting the Alex Foulk Memorial Fund to support organizations which provide assistance to individuals dealing with substance abuse.
