Nothing Is Sound
A new year doesn’t always necessitate a new beginning for everyone, but I think a lot of people do try and see it as an opportunity to explore new horizons.
For me, obviously, this translates to the consideration of new musical endeavors. Last month, I started up a new, as yet unnamed, project with a couple of local musicians that will grant me the ability to channel my creativity through a different outlet in different musical genres.
Most importantly, it’s an original project that will allow us to write our own music in a constructive and productive manner. I’ve written a few songs in my day, and I am also involved in another band that plays original songs; but it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to contribute in any major way to the composition and structure of the songs themselves.
We began rehearsing about four weeks ago and have crafted music at an approximate average of one song per week. I would speculate that we will be ready to make our public debut within the next two or three months, but I’ll offer more updates as they unfold — including the much anticipated band name.
My musical journey is, in many ways, symbolic of the way in which I navigate through life. It’s my opinion that one should never become too comfortable or complacent in the status quo, at least not indefinitely. Every once in a while, it becomes necessary for me to take risks, step outside of my comfort zone and try something new.
I was never quite ambitious, motivated or determined enough to set an overall life goal for myself. But I suppose that if I had an overarching motto by which I should live it would be that we should always accentuate the areas of our lives in which we find the most personal growth.
The body, mind and soul are fragile things and they require regular maintenance — sometimes even rehabilitation. And there is never a better time to start than the present. Fortunately for those who thrive on making resolutions, the present coincides with a new year.
And now, here’s some of what you can expect to find in the area this week.
